The Moment Arrives
I spoke to my son yesterday.
He moved up to the next level of interviews for an internship—an opportunity he had been waiting for.
He’s excited. A little nervous. Thinking about what’s next.
And I could feel it. The shift.
That moment when something you’ve been working toward suddenly becomes real.
So many elements have come together at once.
It’s unfamiliar. A little uncomfortable.
But that’s life.
What You Can’t Control
You prepare.
You show up.
And then you let go of what you can’t control.
Because the truth is—
no one controls the outcome.
You don’t control the other side.
How it unfolds isn’t up to you.
You control your mind.
You use what you’ve practiced.
You trust what you’ve built.
You do the best you can in the moment.
What Mastery Really Means
And even if things don’t go as planned—
that’s not the measure.
Mastery isn’t the result.
It’s how you hold yourself through it.
I realized, as I was writing a note to him,
that it’s exactly what I need right now too.
Holding Steady When Things Move Fast
At work. In writing.
In all the places where things are moving faster than I’d like—
where decisions are made quickly,
where not everything can be perfect.
There’s a temptation to try to control more.
To tighten. To rush. To react.
But this moment asks for something different.
Clarity.
Presence.
Trust.
You have power over your mind—not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.
— Marcus Aurelius
The moment arrives.
You don’t control it.
You decide how you meet it.
